Just Trust Him

When Chinese New Year was drawing close, like every year, I’ll take a week break. I will book my ticket based on what’s the cheapest flight available at the most suitable time that I want. Thats not the case for some of my friends, who are of different faith.

Is This Life?

Recently, I was talking to my staff who is Buddhist. I asked her about the dates she will be off and what date she will be back. She told me she needs to consult the Chinese calendar for the auspicious dates. I did not know about Chinese superstition that says you should start work on specific days of CNY until this year. My staff told me that there are different dates for people born in different years.

I asked another friend of mine about this and she said the same thing. It perplexed me that people believe how their whole year turns out will be based on which day they start work after Chinese New Year. They believe that starting work on a wrong day brings them bad luck and starting on the right days, bring good luck to their business.

It made me rethink and reflect my life in Christ. Is this life outside Jesus?

Free in Him

What does Jesus say in the bible? It reminded me of Jesus speaking to the believer Jews in front of the Pharisees in John 8:31 … “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.

I brought this friend to the revival meeting and was surprised she agreed. I knew she was from a Buddhist background but she told me that she was neither Buddhist nor Christian. It gave me hope that she is still seeking.

This preacher asked me friend, “What is Freedom to you?” My friend thought for a while and said, Freedom is being able to do whatever you want to do. The preacher said that is true but it is only half-truth. Real freedom is being able to not do what you do not want to do and being able to do what you want to do.

In Loving Boundaries

Some of us may have friends who fell into sin. When we ask them why you did it, they might tell you they didn’t want to but couldn’t help it. They didn’t want to sin, but did it anyway. That is not freedom. All of us have to work, but if we came to work every morning unwillingly, unhappily, that is not freedom. There is no freedom if we need to follow the superstition on which day to work.

There is freedom when we know the truth who is Jesus, believe Jesus in our hearts and abide in His word which also means obey his Word, then we are His true disciples. When we are following His word and obeying it, we will know the truth and this truth will give us true freedom. I also believe that to gain true freedom, we need to acknowledge God.

His Words says

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

For me, to trust in God and to acknowledge Him means that whatever we do, it’s not based on what we want to do but its base on what God says in His word. The wisdom we need for our daily lives is all found in the Word. We can find that truth through reading the bible, through prayer, or spending time at the feet of Jesus who is the Word made flesh.

Ultimately, when we live in freedom, we can disciple others too to

  1. Know God and not just know about God
  2. To Love people, each other as we love ourselves and as God loves us
  3. To lead our lives doing what Jesus says we should do not just do what Jesus did

Father I pray that we can look to you every day, grow in you and find true freedom that Jesus spoke of. Let us be free from all bondages and also be free to live a life that glorifies you alone. In all that we do, we want to know You more, we want to cherish each person that crosses our paths and we want to freely share about Jesus to the world.

May everyone who knows about you eventually knows You who is the Word made flesh, who is the true and only living God, who died and rose again, the only Hope for mankind. In Jesus name we ask and pray Amen.
