Lord, Can I Say No?

Have you ever said that to God when He asked you to do something?

For myself, it’s many uncountable times.

The funniest thing is, I pray every day “God use me! However little I have and is able to give, use me”, especially on Sunday but I’ll conveniently say “Can I don’t do it God” on Monday. Or anytime when there’s an opportunity to obey.

You know exactly what I meant fellow Christians.

Really? Seriously?

Two years ago I was caught up in my work and new transitions in my life, it was taxing and that is just a shy few months after I accepted Christ. The Lord spoke to me very clearly to set a time to meet my friend Yie. Of course, I said “No“, who has time for that? Visitation can take up to few hours!

Yet, He repeated few times, as clear as your month-end bills. As a new believer, I heard many seniors said, “If God repeats what He said, you better obey” Why am I more afraid of my mother than God, my mom doesn’t need to repeat herself. Hence, against all excuses reasoning, I made the call to meet Yie.

I even added “This better be worth it Bro

When I Said Yes

I met Yie and we discuss life, we were friends for more than 8 years. I remember we were talking about her mother which passed away 6 years ago and that she misses her. I told her about how God can fill the longing in our hearts and how He gives me peace. (There is a bit of horror story in between but I’ll save it for another day).

She asked about God’s peace and that very moment when I explained His peace, His love, in the simplest new believer ways, she cried. We cried together and I asked if she wants to accept Jesus.

She said she has to think about it and through the knowledge of Holy Spirit I know she will accept Christ that day itself (at that point of time I don’t know it is Holy Spirit, just a clear conviction) so I prayed in tongues in my heart.

After an hour, she said, “Belle, I want Jesus“. I said great! Let me google sinners prayer. I have no idea how she came to trust someone who needs to google prayers.

Him: Is It Worth It?

That was two years ago. This beautiful woman cannot go to church because she’s the only Christian in her family. She relied on bible apps, some devotion books I passed to her and time to time she will ask me questions on how to grow in Christ. She doesn’t have much in life according to worldly standard, a sit at home mom, simple woman that loves her family and friends.

She will tell me things like

I can’t sleep yesterday, I remembered you say I can always pray. So I did, I prayed for my friends until I cry, I want them to know Jesus too

I did not even tell her what is intercession yet Holy Spirit work so powerfully through her. Through constant prayers, she’s able to give advice to her friends with wisdom and her family tension has turned joyful within a year.

One day she told me over the phone, with a tone that I know she’s smiling “Belle, thank you for giving me, Jesus. He is all I need and I know I’ll always have

My answer to God and everyone,

Yes, it is worth it. All of it. When we take courage to die to ourselves, God uses it for His wonderful plans.

Just Move, Glory Belongs to Him Alone

Ever since that encounter. I understand what is obedience. I don’t need to be professional Christian. I just have to say yes and move. The rest is ALL HIM ALONE.

We may be that reluctant son who said no, but later move reluctantly or Moses when he told God to send someone else. I wouldn’t say that’s a role model but at least when we move, we see Him work wonders. We will be more inclined to move after the impact of saying Yes to Him.

Along the way, it becomes a joy and delight (not every day), expecting more of His amazing plans.

Keep going brothers and sisters, we are changing the world with one smile, one kindness, one person at a time.

Do keep Yie in your prayers and I pray, today we will all say yes to Him in our own little ways and allow Him to multiply the little big Yes. In Jesus name. Amen

  1. Matthew 21:29 – I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went
  2. Exodus 4:13 – But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Please send someone else
  3. John 14:12 – Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father.
