It’s not an understatement to say that God is continuously speaking; the issue was always if His children is sensitive to His voice; that still, small voice. This particular time, I heard Him speak through a song when I was playing the drums for a wedding service. The second stanza went along these lines:

Unrestrained, unrivaled, UNASHAMED, unbridled, all in all invincible, God Your love can never fail.

I didn’t know what was it that day, but as I was playing to the song, I was just so drawn the that word “UNASHAMED” and in the midst of keeping tempo, singing along, making sure I don’t miss the worship leader’s signal, a myriad of thoughts went through my mind as I contemplated the depth of that word and what it meant in the light of Jesus’ love for us.

Free Will

Here’s what went through my mind:

Heart shaped sugar

I imagined one day in heaven, the Lord called for the assembly in the courts of heavens to announce the creation of man. While the heavenly hosts have participated in the countless creation of perfect beings and galaxies, something was different about this one.

“I will put My Image on them”…
“I will breathe My Breath into them”…
“I will give them the ability to procreate”…
“I will give them dominion over the earth”…

The one announcement that must have stunned the heavens must have been this:

love that light

“What does it mean”, the angels must have thought.
“This is unprecedented! The King giving this creature a choice?”, they must have whispered among themselves.
“What is there to choose? How can one not love Him?”, as the volume in the heavenly courts began to climb.

The Fall

With all the spotlight and attention given to the design of man until his creation, the silence must have been deafening when the scandal of the fruit happened that day in the Garden; just days after he walked the earth, communed with his Creator, named all the creatures on the face of the planet, saw his wife (and blamed her for making him eat the fruit)…

I wondered what went through the minds of the angelic hosts; surely judgement must be pronounced for such travesty!

To those who know the stimulus there is in danger
“Is this free will…?”
“Well well, that didn’t take long for them to trip up…”
“They had one instruction and still, this is the path they chose…?”
“…DID THE MASTER SCREW UP with this creation…?”

The Creator Knows

In the Lord’s wisdom and power, He foresaw all this and made a way for the man He hand-crafted to return to Him. As the Creator, He could’ve easily pressed the reset button; He had all the right to do so and it would have been as effortless to Him as breathing.

After all, man decided to throw mud in His face by CHOOSING TO DEFY the only one command He gave; “do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2:17). All the generosity, that care, that love, that trust; paid with wanton disobedience. Yes, He had all the right to press the reset button, to make all things new, to forget that He ever made us… yes, to be ASHAMED OF US.

When Daddy Feeds Me by Eve Tuft

But somehow, LOVE always do the unexpected.
Somehow, God always never fail to confound the judgemental.
Somehow, He decided to take it upon Himself to pay the ransom price of eternal separation.
Somehow, He gave Himself in the ultimate act of love and grace.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Yes! Instead of being utterly ashamed of us, He chased after us, always wooing us to return to Him, gave His sinless and guiltless Son to die on that wretched cross so that the way back to Him is open. Religious frameworks and everyone else would’ve demanded for man to atone for his own sins, but Reckless Love knew only God can pay a god’s ransom.

Spring Has Arrived

The only thing He asks in return, just so that we can enjoy eternal joy; is that we believe in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Master is happy when we decide to put our trust and to obey Him.

You know, God loved us so much that He was willing to lay down His own Son, so as to pay for the price of sin (Romans 6:23). And as if that wasn’t enough, He raised His Son from the dead so that we who believe in Him shall have eternal life and He can love us forever.

If you openly and publicly acknowledge Me, I will freely and openly acknowledge you before My heavenly Father.” Matthew 10:32

Why then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having  – C.S Lewis
