Faith of a Child

Faith of a Child

“Truly I tell you, anyone, who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15 NIV

Jesus says we ought to have a faith like a child in order to enter the kingdom of God. What is a faith of a child? Certainly not childish faith. A childish faith throws up tantrums when it does not get what it wants. A childish person is not mature and prone to ups and downs. He is not a stable person. Maybe reflected in how he spends his time with God. When he likes it he does it. When he doesn’t or have no time he has no qualms about foregoing it.

A childish person always needs people to please him and when he does not get his way he gets angry and leaves. A childish faith has no stability and foundation.

Child-Like Faith

A child-like faith, on the other hand, is a faith that is simple and believing. It does not question God but willingly believes every word of God. It does not doubt God but throws its lot fully with God. People who are always analytical, rationalizing and skeptical will find it difficult to believe in God as they think they will lose control and they do not want to lose control. Hence it is more difficult for them to believe and trust God.

They even find people who do as people who are too simple-minded and naive. They pride themselves on their “resistance” to faith in God. “It can’t be so simple,” they rationalize. But child-like faith says it is.

Just Believe

I need to at all times just believe and not attempt to over-complicates matters but trying to justify or analyze. It was child-like faith that got me saved and it must be child-like faith to keep me in. Trust and obey.

When I begin to question I expose myself to non-faith thinking – worldly thinking. When challenging circumstances arise how do I respond? Child-like faith says just trust God to help me overcome.

To Submit is Manly

When I lost my way, child-like faith says take His hands and follow Him. For men, it is even more difficult because masculinity is at stake. We find it difficult to be led and to submit. We want to lead and be head of the pack.

But child-like faith effectively blows that apart.
