Convictions on The Road

So there was one day I was the passenger of a dangerous woman and I heard enough horror stories about her insane bad driving. She stopped when the traffic light turns to yellow, I hope you are as surprised as I am!! Who stops at yellow lights right? (just kidding) especially she’s a renowned skilful risky driver.

Safety Line

This is what she shared with me a conviction the Lord gave her.

You see the yellow light is a safety line, a warning before the lights turn red. It is the buffer before you go into dangerous accidents. Red is where it is too late to turn back.”

Like any temptation, when we have the conviction from Holy Spirit, the deep down feeling we’re at the wrong place succumbing to do the wrong thing, that’s the yellow light. We shouldn’t cross. Once we get used to crossing yellow lights, crossing red lights wouldn’t seem so wrong anymore.

That is what sin can do to us, the more we do it, crossing the boundaries, our heart becomes immune to conviction. Before we know, we’re too deep down into the rabbit hole.

Acts 7:57 “At this, they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,”

Stephen was convicting the crowd about Jesus, and that was their reaction. Unable to listen to the spirit of God. They murder Stephen instead because they would rather keep doing what is comfortable for them. Do we see it? turning a deaf ear to Holy Spirit is the same as murdering Stephen because we refuse to change.

Often times, we humans think that “never mind it is just a red light, I can bear the consequence, its just once anyway.” yet, one time can make us comfortable enough to do it the second time and so on. The worst is we never know what is at the end of the road, a split-second can change our lives forever.. and we may regret forever.

Is that what we want?

Where to Look

I have a habit of using my phone as I wait for the traffic light. It usually ends up me getting honk by drivers behind me. It is embarrassing and frustrating at the same time.

Oh, the dilemma, the light is red, I have time! Why can’t I just look at my phone for a bit? Messages coming in like storm!!!! I really want to attend to it but many times I am not able to focus on the road at all.

There is where the second conviction came, God mentioned:

It is because your eyes aren’t focused on me all the time that’s why you are frustrated. If your attention was focused on the traffic light the entire waiting period, when the lights turn green, you would be prepared and ready to roll, instead of being unprepared and people behind the wheels honking you.”

It made me reflect on my life, it is equally frustrating because I wasn’t focussing on God and His will for my life. I’m busy chasing MY goals My life that is inspired by the media. Ended up I lost my focus on God and His Kingdom. I am thankful for this church that guides me and ready to take me as I am in my life and lead me closer to God!

Matthew 6:33 “So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s Kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from Him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly”

Obey or Not?

Okay, I promise this is the last story about traffic lights and roads.

After the encounter with this woman, 80% of the time I managed to stop, and other 20% are just excuses.

However sometimes being busy, I still speed across the road when the light turned yellow, pray for me I am making it a point to change my habit.

The Lord whispered to me after I insisted to cross the traffic lights:

“You didn’t obey me; I just need your obedience”

At that time, the thought of the Israelite disobeying God after they came out from Egypt came to me, it reminds me of me, how I was repetitively disobedient when God has already used someone to speak to me, but yet I still continue with my old ways. This needs to stop.

Finger Star!

I know changing habit is not a one-day thing, that is why we need trusted friends around us to keep us in check, speaking life and correction, turn our face back to God. After all, He only wants the best for us and people who correct us believe the best in us!

Folks, try opening your eyes to what God is saying. He can use anyone, any situation to give you a gentle nudge to help you stay away from unnecessary harm. When it happens, it is amazing and you know IT MUST BE GOD! THERE CANT BE ANY EXPLANATION!
