The Righteous Will Live by Faith

  • Romans 1:16 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”[b]
  • “See, the enemy is puffed up;
    his desires are not upright—
    but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness[a]—
  • John 14: 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
  • John 14: 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.

How many Christians were aware 31st October 2017 marked the 500th anniversary of an important church event where in the city of Wittenberg, Germany, a monk, Martin Luther (1483-1546) took upon himself to shake the foundation of the church and altered church history forever by nailing his famous 95 theses on the door of Castle Church?

His 95 theses attacked papal abuses and the sale of indulgences and demanded reforms to what Luther perceived the church as corrupted to the core. The 95 theses became the foundation of the Protestant Christianity and fueled the Protestant Reformation since then to what the Protestant Church is at the moment.

The Reformation set in motion a number of reforms and teachings unprecedented and divided the Christian world forever.

Luther was affronted by the church’s wrong teaching that the pope and the church had the authority to forgive sin and grant salvation. Taxing the poor was such a scandalizing affair to Luther that compelled him to search the scripture for answers.

Luther then asserted that Jesus has the authority to forgive sin and no one else, not even the pope. “Christians are saved through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and not through works,” said the liberated monk.

Luther’s conviction was based on Romans 1:17 where it says, “For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Based on scripture, indulgences cannot saved anyone except by faith on the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 1:17 suddenly became alive, and today, is one of the most important church doctrines for the protestant movement.

Friends, whom you placed your faith would determine your destiny, both present and future and eternity. Today you can trust Him to forgive your sin and make you anew. Anyone who has faith in Him will do great things and even greater things than you can imagine (John 14: 12).

The Not so Tight Rope Walk

Won’t you give Jesus a chance to work in and through you to accomplish His agenda?

“Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.” – Martin Luther
