Dr. Ng Wai Sheng received her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University / Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago. Wai Sheng has taught children and adolescents, worked as a welfare worker in residential care for minors, mental health rehabilitation and substance abuse services, conducted assessment and psychotherapy in inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as provided training and consultations to organizations. In the past 6 years, Wai Sheng was a Senior Lecturer at HELP University College, Kuala Lumpur, where she designed and spearheaded the first Master of Clinical Psychology program among private institutions. Currently, Wai Sheng has a part-time private practice in OUG-KL and Klang. A systemic and integrative clinician, Wai Sheng believes in helping clients attain wholistic health in their contexts, towards greater freedom in their relationships with themselves and with others. She has experience working with individuals, couples, families and groups. Additionally, in the past 3 years, Wai Sheng has been learning spiritual accompaniment, which helps her appreciate even more her own brokenness, and thus desiring to journey with individuals in their brokenness, towards greater authentic living.

Seminar Description:

The issue of mental health is increasingly a critical issue in our fast-paced, stressed out society today. Statistics showing an increasing rate of suicides in Malaysia only goes to show how much pressure the demands of life today are people, young and old. Stress affects our mental health and so does sicknesses, hurts, conflicts etc – practically anything and everything can cause a lot of harm to our mental health where for some it deteriorates into extreme mental problems. Increasingly society is also seeing our school-going children  being adversely affected in the area of mental health. Hence, it is very important to be knowledgeable on the issues concerning mental health, especially how to maintain a healthy mental state of mind.

Hence, this public seminar will cover the following areas:

* The importance of paying attention to our own mental health

* How to detect mental and emotional risks

* The 5-factors in mental health development

* Intervention and preventive actions

* Myths and stigma relating to mental health and help-seeking
